Your Window on the Revitalization of Downtown Monroe Wisconsin

Downtown Monroe offers a unique blend of New World Business and Old World Charm. Main Street Monroe exists to nurture and support our solid Business District in following the Four Point Approach to Downtown Revitalization as established by the National Trust in 1977.
Efforts of the existing Business Improvement District were instrumental in Monroe’s designation by Governor Jim Doyle as a Wisconsin Main Street Community on July 6, 2005. A grant from the Swiss Colony supported the creation of a long range Master Plan which has proven to be a significant Catalyst for continuing the Development in our Downtown.
The Monroe Main Street Program in essence would not function without the many Volunteers and Community Partners who have dedicated time and energy toward its success. Thank you!
In 2009 we will saw the realization of a
Streetscape plan that has enhanced the Downtown Business District. The streetwork is complete and the walkways are now adorned with new streetlights and trees. Benches and flowers will be added in Spring. Come view the new look of the Square. Unique shopping, arts and entertainment and eclectic dining are waiting to be enjoyed.
The Monroe Main Street Mission Statement adopted October 24, 2005 The Monroe Main Street Program will improve the quality of life for all Monroe residents by ensuring economic stability, maintaining historic integrity, and making Monroe's downtown the focal point of the community.

Green County Cheese Days Celebration in Downtown Monroe, WI
9/17, 9/18 and 9/19
Come Celebrate Green County Cheese Days Sept 17-19,2010 in Downtown Monroe Wisconsin!
Experience Old World tradition at an out-of-this world celebration. Green County Cheese Days is the oldest and largest food fest in the Midwest (Started in 1914)– honoring Swiss heritage, cheesemaking and dairy farming traditions in Green County Wisconsin. Back when "buy local" was really the only option if you wanted to eat
(and not a marketing mantra), and long before "foodie tourism" was a buzzword term, the people of Green County created a festival based on local cheese. More than 3,000 visitors traveled by train, and horse
and carriage to attend the first festival. Today's attendance at this every-other-year event is estimated at more than 150,000 - including regional, national, and international visitors.
